Edward Zimbardi of Flowery Branch, Georgia, promoted The Crypto Program from June 2022 to August 2023 as a way to buy advertising packages with a guaranteed 25% monthly return, paid in cryptocurrency sent to wallets he secretly controlled. Federal prosecutors say thousands of investors sent more than $165 million. They allege he gambled more than $34 million on foreign currency bets, paid earlier investors with later investors' money and spent at least $10 million on himself, including a house for his son and luxury vehicles. The program collapsed in August 2023.
Zimbardi, 59, was indicted in the Northern District of Georgia on July 8, 2026, on 12 counts of wire fraud, 12 counts of money laundering and one count of money laundering conspiracy. He had fled to Fiji in July 2025, and Fijian authorities deported him on August 14, 2026. The charges have not been proven. The FBI is collecting information from investors for possible restitution.
